Fast-forward into the future this weekend in Thun

If you want to take a leap into the future, you can do it this weekend in Thun. On Thursday night the clocks will be fast-forwarded by 982 years. On the 27th and 28th of April 3000, the 9th Swatch Rocket Air under the motto 3000 AD will rise in the ice rink of the city of alps, Thun. The best freestyle bike riders in the world will be fighting for the honor of their nation – on board, big names such as Nicholi Rogatkin and Thomas Genon.

Ever imagined how the world will look like in the year 3000? The organizers of the Swatch Rocket Air wanted to know and decided to leap 982 years to 3000 for the 9th edition of Switzerland’s largest freestyle bike event. Since last week, approximately 30 volunteers have been working hard carrying 3’000 pallets, building landings and filling them with dirt and balancing on dizzying heights to build 8meter high rocket launcher drops.

This year, the Rocket Air has the pleasure to welcome back Nicholi Rogatkin and Thomas Genon, the two winners of the last four editions. After Thomas Genon took the win in 2014 and 2015, Nicholi Rogatkin was able to win solid over the last two years with his well known trick, the Twister. "The spectators drove me to top performance," said Rogatkin after his victory in 2017 "what we experience here in the Thun is unique on the world tour". In addition to the two top favorites, another double winner will be competing and it’s no other than the well-known Brit, Sam Pilgrim. But before we learn if anyone can make the triple victory, the legendary team battle – fight of the nations will take place on Friday. A big show can be expected. Watch 45 riders split into 6 teams while they show off their skills and wow the crowd.

There won’t only be a clash of cultures on the rink this weekend, get ready to experience Artistic Cycling ft. BMX Flatland -where old meets new as well as the Trail Show, an oldie but goodie that will even captivate the crowd in the back. Compete with your buddies at the Bergamont Pumptrack Race and compare your time with the best pumptrack riders of the world! The side events are rounded off by numerous family activities - including the popular Like-a-Bike Race - as well as a musical highlight. And, of course not to forget, the legendary Big Baang Party will be held this Saturday at the Club The Legacy - true to the motto: "Party with the riders!"

The finals of the Swatch Rocket Air will be streamed live on rocketair.ch.
